Real Housewives shows have higher than average divorce rate

When news broke this week of another cast member from Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise filing for divorce, it led many fans of the shows to realize that the cast members seem to experience a rather high divorce rate. In fact, across all of total of six locations where the realty show is filmed, the featured women have a divorce of over 51 percent.

Upon first glance, this high divorce rate on the show might be surprising to Las Vegas readers. However, considering the circumstances of many of these couples can shed light on the situation. For example, many non-famous couples struggle to keep a marriage happy when work becomes too demanding for one or both spouses. Demanding schedules and stressful work environments take a toll on individuals, and in turn often marriages can suffer as well.

One recent Housewife divorce has been attributed to a conflict between the couple over the decision to work versus having children. These types of conflicts can often lead people to decide to end a marriage, if it becomes clear that they have different priorities.

Another factor that may be impacting the Real Housewives is their time in the spotlight. As we’ve seen with celebrity couples in general, the scrutiny and criticism from the press can be hard to ignore and may make it difficult to maintain a sense of normalcy from day to day. A lot of public exposure can also be stressful for children, which could lead to additional problems in a marriage.
