Ex remembers Britney Spears’ Las Vegas marriage and divorce

Although it took place more than seven years ago, the two-day marriage and ultimate divorce of pop singer Britney Spears and her childhood friend has again appeared in the news. Recently, Jason Alexander gave an interview to ABC News in which he detailed the series of events that took place leading up to, during, and following the 55-hour marriage.

Spears and Alexander were married on New Year’s Day in 2004. According to Alexander, Spears called him and offered to fly him to Las Vegas on a private jet. He accepted the offer, thinking that he would “have a good time,” with his friend.

After a night of partying, Spears suggested that the two get married. Alexander did not speculate on her motivations for her proposition, but he told reporters that the two were drinking and seemed to allude that they had been doing drugs. However, Alexander was able to state his reasons for accepting her proposal. “I was in love with her,” he said. “I feel like she felt the same way.”

The pair went to Las Vegas’ famed Little White Wedding Chapel and exchanged wedding vows. They then posed for the infamous wedding photo that was eventually splashed all over the news. In the picture, Spears was shown smiling with her new husband, wearing a white baseball cap with her midriff exposed.

Spears soon shared the news with her mother and managers, which was the beginning of the quick end. “Everyone went crazy because there was no prenup,” Alexander said, and the marriage was annulled within 55 hours of the wedding.

The pop star has since been married and divorced, and is once again engaged.
