Former first lady of Nevada an example of life after divorce

When a person is considering divorce after being in a marriage for a long time, it may feel like the biggest and heaviest decision of their life. When a couple spend many years together, they not only share finances and children, but also friends, interests, and even personal quirks. The comfort of a marriage, no matter how bad it is, sometimes keeps people together because of the fear of the unknown.

If Las Vegas residents are feeling held back by these types of fears, they can take example from a former Nevada first lady who shows us that there is life after divorce, and a quite happy one at that. Dawn Gibbons was married to former Gov. Jim Gibbons, who served from 2007 to 2011 as the 28th governor of Nevada. The two were married for 24 years.

According to reports, the couple divorced in 2010 in what some call a ‘messy’ divorce. It was the first divorce of a sitting governor in the history of the state.

Their divorce was obviously very public and possibly that much more difficult to go through. Nonetheless, with time couples move on and are often able to find happiness in other relationships or activities. That seems to be the case with Dawn, who got engaged last week on Valentine’s Day. Her new beau reportedly proposed to her on the holiday at a Tiffany & Co. store. The two met through mutual friends and started dating last March.

Divorce is undoubtedly difficult and often emotionally draining. It leaves some people feeling worried about the future in terms of love and finances. But as this story shows, even the most public and messy divorce can be overcome and may lead to a happy future.
