What are your divorce deal breakers?

Earlier this week, supermodel and reality TV host Heidi Klum and singer Seal confirmed media speculation by announcing that they were planning to end their marriage. The divorce announcement came as a shock to many who saw the marriage as one full of happiness and love.

Klum and Seal were married in 2005 and were raising four children together, three born during the marriage and one from a previous relationship of Klum’s. During their seven years of marriage, the couple painted a picture of a happy married couple, renewing their vows on every anniversary and talking about one another with respect and love. But in the wake of the divorce announcement, anonymous sources have come out of the woodwork, telling entertainment websites that the couple battled issues with anger that may have led to the marriage’s demise.

According to one of those unnamed sources, Seal had a volatile temper which ultimately became a deal breaker for his wife. “Seal’s inability to control his anger has become too much for Heidi to take,” the source said, “in no small part because it’s affecting their children.”

While that may or may not be true, it leads to an interesting discussion of divorce deal breakers. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Dr. Bethany Marshall, a deal breaker is a quality of your spouse that overpowers his or her positive traits. Marshall says that, for women, frugality, infidelity or lying, and the lack of a life plan are highly common deal breakers. For men, extreme independence, inflexibility, or a lack of concern about appearance often become too much to take.
