Infidelity motivates 99-year-old man to file for divorce

What would you do if you found out that your spouse had cheated on you? Would there be certain variables within the infidelity that would help you make the decision on whether to stay with your spouse or end your marriage? For many Las Vegas couples, the length of time that has elapsed since the infidelity may make a significant difference in the decision of whether or not to divorce. So what if the affair happened more than 50 years ago?

This is reportedly what happened in the marriage of a 99-year-old man and his 96-year-wife. After learning of an affair that took place between his wife and another man in the 1940s, the husband has decided to file for divorce. The couple has been married for 77 years.

Media reports indicate that the husband learned of the infidelity when he went through an old chest of drawers in the couple’s house in Rome. After coming across several letters written by his wife to another man, the husband confronted his wife. She admitted that she and the other man had had an affair in the 1940s. Upon learning this, the husband became very upset. He decided to file for divorce from his wife of nearly eight decades.

The couple met and married in the 1930s. They have five children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

With the husband’s filing, the couple is now believed to be the oldest man and woman to divorce in history. They stole the dubious honor from a man and woman who divorced in 2009 when both were 98 years old.
