Is there a positive side to divorce?

One of the most painful experiences you can have is to watch your spouse pack his or her things and walk out the door and on your marriage. You might wonder if you will ever find the strength to move on. There is a positive side to divorce, but it might just take you a little while to find it. Consider the following:

— You learn that you only need to please yourself. You will eventually realize that you don’t need anyone’s approval. When you finally find that you are happy with yourself, you are simply happy.

— You become stronger. You may not realize it, but your divorce will make your stronger. If you’re a parent, you may feel overwhelmed, but even that will fade. You will likely survive your divorce relatively unscathed.

— You have choices. You have many more choices than you once had. You can choose to live a whole, full and happy life. That’s not to say there won’t be struggles, but you may find you like the person you become.

— You might become a bit selfish. After years of thinking about keeping your husband and your children happy, you may find that there is a lot of value in becoming a little bit selfish. You can’t be everything to everyone if you don’t value yourself, too.

These are some positive things that might occur after your divorce. The first step, however, if getting through the divorce process. Some people are happy with a legal separation instead of a divorce. An attorney can provide you with the necessary information while protecting your rights and interests. He or she can help you get what you deserve from your marriage.
