Keep it low, try your best, smile

She’s just six years old, but she is dispensing some of the best life advice people have heard. Her name is Tiana and she recently gently explained to her single mom how best to deal with Tiana’s dad.

The video of the girl has gone viral, as they say. For Las Vegas parents facing divorce and child custody issues, spending a few minutes with Tiana will help you see the world through a little girl’s eyes. She wants more than anything for her parents to lower the level of animosity between them, to try their best to be decent to each other and to smile when they see her.

After watching her parents argue, Tiana has a talk with her mom. Sitting on the stairs in their home, she tells her mom that high tensions are not good for anyone and that everyone will be better off as friends. “Try not to be that high up to be friends,” she tells her mom. “I want everything to be low, OK?” “OK,” her off-camera mom replies in a voice that sounds a bit shaky, as if she understands that she’s hearing profound truth.

“Just try your best,” Tiana advises before adding a caution. “I don’t want you and my dad to be replaced and be mean again. I want you and my dad to be settled and friends.”

Millions of people have watched the video shared by a variety of sources on YouTube. Everyone from People magazine to Gwen Stefani and Mark Zuckerberg are sharing Tiana’s wise words.

The little girl says that if we allow our worst impulses to take over, we will all be monsters. And who wants to live in a world full of monsters?

“I just want everything to be settled down,” Tiana adds. “Nothing else.” She’s the voice of children of divorce; they all want stability, love and smiles in their lives.

“I want you, Mom, my dad, everyone, to be friends. I want everyone to be smiling, not like being mad…especially when I see someone, I want them to smile.”

Take a moment to listen to Tiana. If you have any questions afterwards about the legal aspects of child custody disputes, please know that Las Vegas family law attorneys cannot possibly be as adorable.
